How to Care for Your Indoor Plants

Congratulations on your new plant!  We're excited you've chosen to purchase a plant either at GPF Nursery, Pay-Less Supermarkets, The Home Depot or Don Don Donki.  With just a few simple habits, your plant can thrive and reward you with fresh beauty and healthy growth!  Here are some easy care tips to help you along the way:

LIGHT:

Most of our indoor plants are grown in shade houses, so they will appreciate medium, indirect light when placed in your home or office.  If you'd like to move your indoor plants into a brighter location, be sure to acclimate it gradually to avoid stress.

Succulents, on the other hand require brighter light.  To keep color and prevent plants from stretching, give it as much light as possible, with artificial light or place close to a window.

Please check the tags or stick labels that came with your plant for specific light requirements.

WATERING:

When it comes to watering indoor plants, less is more. Always make sure your pot has a drainage hole so excess water can escape - soggy roots are the number one cause of plant stress.  If your plant came in a deco pot, don't worry: most of what we sell either has built-in holes or is placed in a growing pot inside a cache pot.  Just lift out the inner pot when watering, let the excess drain away, then place it back into the deco cache pot.

A good rule of thumb: check the top inch of soil - if it feels dry, it's time to water.

FEEDING:

Plants, like people, do best with regular nourishment.  Use a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks.  Light consistent feeding helps encourage stronger roots, brighter leaves, and longer-lasting blooms.

REPOTTING & MAINTENANCE

Over time, your plant may outgrow its pot.  Signs include circling the bottom or soil that dries out too quickly.  Repotting into a slightly larger container with fresh soil gives your plant the space and energy it needs to keep growing.

At the same time,  a little maintenance trimming goes a long way.  Remove yellow or damaged leaves and if needed, shaping will help your plant look its best and encourage healthy new growth.
